    Jesus and Soccer

    July 20th, 2010

Soccer is growing in popularity in the Northwest and Northside is joining the party. This last week the church field was filled with a sea of kids in red sporting their stylish High Power Soccer Camp T-Shirts. Over sixty K-6th grade students joined an energy filled week of kicking soccer balls and learning about five parables that Jesus told. The students engaged in soccer drills and scrimmiages as well as bible stories, group time, singing and of course some good snacks. A dedicated group of twenty-seven volunteers gave their time serving in roles such as snacks, coaching, prayer and registration. On Sunday many of the studnets and their families were part of the Soccer Sunday program as the kids sung their songs in front of the church. After the service their was a BBQ outside and a scrimmiage on the field with parents and students playing. A specail thanks to Meridian Middle School and the Smith family who loaned soccer goals for the week. Next year the soccer camp will be taken to the next level as the curriculum will be improved, the camp capacity will be expanded and effort will be made to include students who wouldn't normally get to participate in a camp like this. It's exitcing to see Northwest kids worshipping Jesus and playing soccer!
